Soft and Natural, Altrincham

Remodelling of both the front and rear garden of a prominent Victorian property.

Joanne Willcocks Gardens By Design

Our understanding of natural materials and how to showcase them helped to create a stunning and relaxing outdoor space to both the front and rear of this prestigious home. Sandstone walling and paving, clay pavers and stabilised gravel all played a part in the successful mix of ingredients. Structural planting with a soft herbaceous underlayer with the purple and grey tones welcome the user to rest and relax. The colours pick out the palette of the landscape and building materials creating a coherent and imaginative design.

New pathway of sawn sandstone draws you into the garden and frames the ‘outdoor rug’ of clay pavers. The porcelain clad outdoor sofa is an invitation to sit and relax.

Seating area for a coffee table to enjoy the front garden and views of the house and a place to social with the neighbours.

Bespoke gated partition wall constructed from reclaimed Cheshire bricks incorporating a willow weave screen and cottage garden planting to soften the materials.

How we did it

Initial clearance and level setting, skilled machine work with in house certified operators.

Subbase with geotextile membrane, to stabilise subgrade and prevents environmental contamination.

Preparation for paved areas, levels set to falls and subbase installed.

Heath smooth sandstone being laid for the paths. A beautiful natural material, pre sealed for easy maintenance.

Preparation for concrete foundations for the floating bench. Precise levels set with reinforcing mesh cut ready.

Porcelain DesignClad on block walls. Every detail is checked throughout the installation for a faultless finish.

Rich, tactile clay pavers being installed. Each block is carefully laid to herringbone pattern, replicating a textile rug.

45’ mitre cut to the corners to achieve the detail and finish so deserving of each project.

Galvanised steel rods built into the Cheshire reclaimed brick wall ready for the willow weave screen. Willow weave is a sustainable material with a long-life span and offers a softer feel to a traditional screen.

Planting finishes the outdoor spaces, bringing it alive with colour and texture.
